Devil May Cry 2 Trivia

1. In this game, Dante is over 40 years old. According to some of the developers of CapCom, they stated in an interview in the Graphic Arts book of 3, 1, 4, 2 that Dante's about 30 years old, and that this game's spot in the timeline is most likely in a parallel universe, and that they're still not sure where to fit this game into the timeline.

2. While Trish possesses the power of Devil Trigger, it does not change her shape. Hideki Kamiya, the DMC series creator, suggested that the Devil Trigger form seen in DMC2 may not be her true Devil form.

3. Devil May Cry 2 didn't meet up to expectations like the other Devil May Cry games due to the constant technological errors that occurred during development, and how there wasn't enough money to update their technology. Plus most of the development team consisted of arcade gaming developers, which were still new to the whole experience of the technology used. And the producer of this game, Tsuyoshi Tanaka, made the team do whatever they pleased on making this game.

4. Arius' facial design was based off of Lee Van Cleef, who plays as the villainous sheriff in the movie, For A Few Dollars More.

5. The Msira enemies are actually the citizens of Dumary Island transformed, due to being consumed by evil.

6. The landscapes in this game are inspired by a place in Turkey.

7. Dante wasn't originally going to be the main character of this game, but an unknown male wearing a green-coloured jacket.

8. The reason Dante is so quiet in this game, compared to Devil May Cry 1 (and other games most likely) was because the producer, Tsuyoshi Tanaka, did not like the joke-cracking wiseass version of Dante.

9. The reason for Trish being added as a secret playable character in this game was because it was an act of apology for changing Dante's original character.

10. It is a mystery on whether this game has easy-automatic, or not. Some sources on forum websites claim that CapCom made an error by copying and pasting information from the DMC1 instruction manual, and that it can't be unlocked at all, no matter what the instruction manual says.
Others say that it can be unlocked, and that they successfully unlocked it by dying a few times, and/or getting a D rank on a few missions.
It's not even mentioned on the Wiki page in the Automatic Mode section, and there are no tutorials on how to unlock it anywhere, except on forum websites, with some succeeding on unlocking it, and others not able to.

11. Lucia is named after Saint Lucy/Saint Lucia from Divine Comedy/Dante's Inferno and Catholic religion.

12. The Tartarussian and Plutonian were inspired by giants in Norse mythology known as Jotun/Jotnar.

13. The Furiataurus is inspired by the Ancient Greek torture method, The Brazen Bull (aka Bronze Bull and Sicilian Bull). Information of the Furiataurus states in the 3, 1, 4, 2 Graphic Arts book, "Bull shaped hollowed-out oven designed to burn criminals to death. The flames of calamity still flow through its limbs, fueled by the screams and rage of the executed".

14. The Golemns are inspired by the Heedra from Nausicaa: Valley of The Wind.

15. The Arcanas and Arius represent a set of tarot cards. The Medaglia being the suit of coins. The Spada being the suit of swords. The Calice being the suit of cups. The Bastone being the suit of wands. And Arius being the Magician trump card.

14. Geri, Freki, and Bolverk are based off the same characters from Norse mythology. Geri and Freki are companions of Odin, while Bolverk is an alias Odin used to steal back of mead of poetry from the land of giants known as Jotunheim.

15. The Trismagia is a corrupted version of the three wise men from Christian lore. The "magi" part of the name meaning, "wise man". Information from the 3, 1, 4, 2 Graphic Arts book states, "Scholars can be divided into those who research for the sake of humanity, and those who research for their own purposes. The three sages that make up Trismagia are extreme manifestations of the latter. They've taken their flawed studies to the extreme and forsaken their bodies. Even as nothing but floating heads, though, they continue their scholarly pursuit of dark knowledge."

16. Arius' final boss form represents an Eastern dragon. According to Ikeno (character designer for this game), he believes that the strongest-looking demons tend to be humanoid dragon ones.

17. The Secretaries, Lucia's devil trigger form, and her unlockable secretary outfit are based off the Secretary Bird of Africa. Hence the name, "Secretary".
