My Review of Devil May Cry 4/Collector's Edition/Special Edition

When I saw the first few trailers for this game, they were nothing like when the game was released, of course. And I was looking forward to it. But when I found out about Nero replacing Dante, and how Dante had the stubble going on, I was not comfortable about what was gonna happening in this game until the 2007 trailers were released, and the screenshots.

I wanted to get this game so bad, even after watching the demos I thought it looked pretty awesome and made me wanna get it. So I managed to get it (the Collector's Edition version) with my Xbox360 as an early birthday gift.

But when I played it, for some reason I started to get really bored due to spoiling myself and the repetitiveness of the game. But when I got to Dante Must Die Mode, holy crap did I ever get frustrated with this game. Mission 19 is what frustrates me the most (I got lucky on this mode though, now I'm stuck on Hell & Hell mode).

Then in 2015 (or was it 2014?), I heard about the Special Edition release all over Facebook in a couple groups I'm an admin in. When I saw the reveal trailer at the end of DmC: Definitive Edition...Well, you don't really need to know how excited I got when they revealed Vergil and his one quote, haha.

More trailers come out for Special Edition, I get even more excited. Then I spoiled myself again and ended up seeing what happens in this game all over Youtube. I was both disappointed and hyped for the release of this game.

                           (Have yet to get the game for myself. Do plan on getting it when it drops in price a a bit).

So to this day, I find DMC4's gameplay REALLY boring but REALLY fun to watch, and is considered as my 3rd favourite in the series.

Positive:

- awesome cutscenes

- nice clean, good graphics

- not bad of a soundtrack

- awesome and neat concepts (characters, move sets, enemies, atmosphere, etc.)

- decent story (I'm not into a lot of romantic stuff though)

- not bad of voice acting

- pretty challenging gameplay on some parts

Negative:

- expect more (bonus content, playing as Dante, Vergil's own gameplay, the movesets, weapon sets, etc.)

- settings are a little too colourful to be a Gothic setting

- a little too carried away with some of the fan service (large bouncy breasts and partial nudity)

- repetitive gameplay

- enemy concepts look alienish and not demonic enough.

- mission 19

- pretty corny/cheesy script

- should have added a few more elements to the game such as Perfect Devil Trigger Mode (see Series Trivia for Devil May Cry 4)

- the game was not finished (connects with the "expect more" thing, plus there are the plot holes).

My rating -> 7.2/10 (For Original & Collector's Editions)

              -> /10 (For Special Edition)

Overall rating from reviewers/studios -> 8.4/10 (For Original & Collector's Editions)
                                                     -> 9/10 (For Special Edition)
