My Review of DmC

When I first saw the TGS trailer back in 2010, I was REALLY ticked of what was going on. After doing some research and looking more into the game, I started feeling a little more positive about it but was more on the neutral side.

After hearing about more bullshitting going on from both CapCom, Ninja Theory, and this game, I started losing my respect overall.

And so I gave up one day (because this game was keeping me up all night) and decided to try out the DmC demo, and this is the first ever Xbox360 demo I've ever tried. Last demo I played was on PS1, and this was years ago! And what did I think of the demo? It's not horrible, and it's not the best either, even though I have more complaints about it.

I'd probably recommend this game as a rental, even though I don't rent games. I'd also recommend it as just borrowing from someone, it's not really worth full price. So I guess I won't be getting it whatsoever, and glad I'm sticking with the old games, even though I don't really care for DMC2, and I got bored of DMC4.

Now what I think of the game overall, like I said for the demo, this game is not good, nor bad. It's about average, and would have been a LOT better and got my attention more if it didn't have Devil May Cry's name slapped on it, and if they used a different engine.

Most games nowadays are considered as average, and the only ones I'm looking forward to nowadays are ones from Platinum Games, Steam, Valve, Nintendo, and little bit of Konami, and Square-Enix.

And I can hope that if there is a DmC2, it'll be better then this one (and NOT done by Ninja Theory of course), and I can hope that Capcom would be willing to make a Devil May Cry 5, if they do.

Then there was talk of the Definitive Edition's release. All I can say is that I didn't pay much attention to it since Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition had my attention more.

Positive:

- visuals are pretty nice.

- gameplay does get a little amusing at times.

- I've encountered no glitches while playing the demo, which was surprising since there HAVE been reports of glitches

- the weapons are pretty neat and got amused going crazy with the devil axe (I'm horrible with names, so I can't remember what it's called)

- Son of Sparda mode did seem to make things more enjoyable but still too easy. I've had maybe a couple scratches on me once in awhile

- those ninja-like enemies look like a bit of a challenge (what I like)

- VINO (Vergil In Name Only) seemed to have a better script than the other characters, but still cheesy nonetheless

- this game started growing on me a little from watching the cutscenes but still not satisfied with it overall

- the enemies' voices seemed pretty cool (then again, I have some sort of obsession with demonic-type voices)

- some of the Metal tracks don't sound too bad

- some parts are pretty trippy to look at

- some parts are artistically beautiful (even though they're stolen)

Negative:

- gameplay DOES get boring after awhile, and the speed would be equivalent to God of War 1 or 3's. I wanted to get straight to the boss and end the demo...That's how bored I was. It just kept dragging on, and on. Had to skip a few fight scenes while watching the walkthrough due how long it was taking to defeat them (this is basically what took up most of the time for the gameplay hours)

- visuals are way too bright and flashy for my taste, especially for a Devil May Cry game (even though it's not really Devil May Cry...to me, anyway)

- difficulty is way too easy (I only used the devil trigger mode on the boss in the demo, that's it), it's like playing easy mode in DMC2. And it did get pretty awkward at times. There's no problem getting SSS ranking

- I got pretty annoyed with the whole staying up in the air thing. At times in the demo, I kept going higher, and higher while pressing the same buttons over, and over. And at times, the camera angle would change to the point where I can't see myself, which got annoying. But at least I had no problem defeating all the enemies, and they've only laid about 2 scratches on me...Maybe 3...That's it

- tutorial pop-ups get really distracting, and all these tutorials is what makes the game even easier

- the collectibles I find are a waste of time. Not a big fan of finding EVERYTHING, and I think they should've kept the whole collectibles and secret doors thing to a minimum. I almost feel like I'm playing Final Fantasy 10 or Arkham City, with the whole finding enemies to create super enemies, and the whole Riddler stuff. I have to admit though that the Riddler thing is more rewarding, and I'm getting curious of what happens if you collect everything in DmC

- audio does get really, really loud and messy at times.

- AI needs improvement

- as we all are aware, most ideas have been stolen (example, the Succubus is a reference to the Slurm queen from Futurama)

- cutscenes are not very interesting like the old games. Would've been better if DINO did more after obtaining the weapons instead of just twirling them on his fingers, just wearing them on his back, or whatever

- very cheesy lines

- we are all aware of some of the stuff they say is a disgrace to the old series, and a ripoff of some games (example, Lilith challenge has a Mortal Kombat reference)

- some parts of the story did not make sense at all

- overall story was rushed, and not a very good ending

- most of the music doesn't have my interest since it sounds Dubstepish.

- shouldn't have used Unreal Engine for this game. It would've came out cleaner and better if they used MT Framework like CapCom planned to at first

- no lock-on

- developers of the game saying a whole lot of offensive stuff towards the audience, lying about certain features (an example would be Vergil's Downfall's release), and bribing the game reviewers to make this game look like it's the best game ever

My Rating: 6.7/10

Overall rating from reviewers/studios: 8.9/10
